Cabergoline can also be used to treat other conditions caused by hormonal disturbance which can result in high levels of prolactin being produced. This includes high levels of prolactin caused by tumours of the pituitary gland in both men and women.
Dosage & Administration
Suppression of established lactation: 0.25 mg every 12 hour for 2 days.
Hyperprolactinemic disorders: Initially 0.5 mg/week in 1 or 2 doses which should be increased gradually by adding 0.5 mg/week at monthly intervals. Therapeutic range: 0.25-2 mg/week.
Inhibition or suppression of lactation: Palpitations, epigastric pain, somnolence, epistaxis & transient hemianopsia.
Hyperprolactinemic disorders: Dyspepsia/gastritis, asthenia/fatigue, constipation, vomiting, breast pain, hot flushes, depression & paresthesia
